Sonic log #4 - dabbling
This week I’ve been dabbling with different setups between the iPad and Elektron boxes and some other things
Apologies, have been busy and haven’t prepped much for the newsletter recently. This one has been in my drafts folder for awhile, so let’s get it out there…
Will be sharing more ModCaf stuff and the Test Chamber soon.
Welcome back to the sonic log, this journal thing I started that follows my exploration with musical ideas and sound in general. Anything goes here, forget structure, solid theory and all of that, this is just a sonic playground for the ears and mind.
It’s interesting how over time my “AUM Recordings” folder fills up with lots of lovely sounds and ideas, so why not share them here in this journal.
Act 1
I’ve been loving Aqeel Aadam Sound’s Ridgewalk plugin and the first recording, is this one:
What you were listening to above is the wet output from the effect, as I turned off the dry signal completely on the output. The synth used was Buttersynth being driven by the Cyckle sequencer.
I really liked the ambient soundscape it created, it’s organic, wind like perhaps. You let me know what kind of image it stirs up in your mind.
Act 2
Next up, is something I put together using AXON 3 (Audiodamage) and Ridgewalk once again.
Act 3
I had some difficulty getting Logic working with the Syntakt on the first attempt but today I got it working and in conjunction with pattern regions to create this beat. Created my own pattern loops for just two of the channels, as I was only experimenting with the setup using the Syntakt as an audio interface instead.
There is a little bit of set up to do both sides but once done, it is easy to replicate again and again. I needed to switch the USB setup on the Syntakt to Audio and MIDI, then the audio routing, so that the audio is routed from the Syntakt, into Logic, taking into account any FX processing that is done there, so that I can monitor the whole thing on my headphones.
I discovered a new feature, silly me, it’s probably been there all along lol, Remix FX, so had to have some of that!
