Sonic log #0001
Capturing my ideas on a day by day basis. Sound designs. Compositions. Little ideas.
I’ve been having an absurd level of fun with both my iPad and modular synth together this past few days. The best app I’ve ever purchased, AUM is the proverbial canine doobries and opens up a wonderful palette of hybrid opportunities. I love it because it isn’t a DAW and right now that is my kind of jam.
Our needs as creatives may not always remain constant, which is totally fine.
This might be something that I’ll take along to ModCaf in August, which will be at a different venue but in the same town, Aldershot. More details in a separate post.
Sounds
A kind of Krell sound made on my modular rig, whilst tweaking the living wotsits out of the Mimeophon module’s, tape delay effects, for that squelchy sound.
A short track comprising of the modular being driven by the onscreen keyboard within AUM. I’m playing with one hand and using the other to tweak the knobs on the hardware. I bring in a drum machine briefly on the iPad. Effects are Fab Filter Q3 mostly, in order to take care of the EQ. The whole thing is very snappy, Sid all latency with this new iPad, none that I can notice anyway.
A variation of the above track, in terms of sounds anyway and this time, I used 4 Pockets Euclidean for the sequencing. Synth is once again hardware, the gentle drum beat is Axon 3, running within AUM on the iPad.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this post and my collection of AUM recordings taken from recent audio exploration.
I’m selling an Expert Sleepers ES9 if you fancy going really deep multichannel with AUM :)
I like the sound of the 4 Euclideans. I finally started doing more iPad integration with my hardware setup. I bought a hardware looper pedal and returned it for Loopy Pro which has been really fun to explore. This last track I just finished started as a Loopy Pro jam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeCi2g_2pwU
