I have been rummaging through my Roland SP-404 and have collected together quite an eclectic number of recordings and it’s all become somewhat disorganised. It’s high time I started to re-organise my audio library, grouping files by the kind of recording they are and to build up some SP404 kits out of some, that I intend to use to create soundscapes with etc etc.
You can store 16 projects at a time on the 404 and I am going to start off with what I’ve got under my project number 4 and just the recent additions that I’ve made to it. Mostly ideas I’ve crafted on the ASM Hydrasynth since I bought it about two weeks back. I have found that using the iPad or my Oxi One to sequence it works really really well and I’ve had fun with various apps along the way.
This one was taking from bank B, pad 7 - I am specifying these details, purely because it will help me find them again and to try and avoid sharing anything twice in this post or future posts.
Plus I could make these “packs” available to you, if interested, so I am getting into the habit of being overly specific, with reason!
Hydrasynth Factory Patch: Alpine Split
I need to work out how they did this with the factory settings on the Hydrasynth Explorer, as the bottom octave plays the bass sequence and the octaves above that are dedicated to the pad for chords or melodies. I need to learn more about the LFO setup, as the fourth LFO is set to step mode and eigtht notes. It’s a great patch.
I connected my Oxi One up to the Hydra and started to explore some ideas with it over the past few days, using the various sequencer modes, chord, stochastic and matriceal, all of which work very well with it.
Stochastic B-01
Very random chord exploration B-05
Matriceal meanderings B-06
Poly sequence B-09
Finally, last but not least, as I am starting to play around with the 404 again, not long ago I found some nice drum samples, loaded them up onto Bank A Project 4 and recorded some patterns. I resampled those through an effects bus to a spare pad and here it is. A drum pattern with tape effect applied… oh man, I can have some fun with this setup, as I have been rekindling a lot of gear recently!
Drum loops with tape delay and compression
I’ve yet to devise a way of organising everything but when I do, I will share my wisdom.
Thanks for listening to some more of my creative noises, next week or it might go out the week after, I am going to be on the wild coast of Cornwall equipped with my Zoom recorder and a camera.
Thanks for your support. Keep on making noises!
