Starting a new Eurorack synth need not be daunting when you've friends on Youtube!
The newest piece of kit to land on my desk this week was a brand new Intellijel 4U 62hp case for the synth that I am building, the first of many I suspect. I purchased it from Signal Sounds, the same company I bought some kit from recently and they’ve been very good. I tend to find I’m establishing a list of regular suppliers for my studio and I’ll share this with you at some point in the future.
Where next? How do I plan to use it? What would you use one for?
Empty case? Yes it is a bit daunting but I already had a couple of modules that wouldn’t fit my previous case, which I am going to sell if you want it, drop me a comment. The problem is now, I’ve some extra space and I’ll talk in my next post about which modules I’m looking to invest in further down the road and the plans I have for the gear I already own. However I suspect that a club I’m dropping in on this week may influence these decisions - more on that later.
Baby steps are the answer
Start with a couple of modules and then build slowly, in my case an Oxi Coral and a MakeNoise Mimeophon. I’ve been looking at routes I can take from just these two, the inevitable purchase of a few more modules in coming months or at a pace of affordability. It is an expensive hobby no mattter which path you follow.
Remember modules are interchangeable!
Exploring great ideas from across YouTube
Research is always fun and you’ll get to discover great content and learn a lot about what you can do with a small Eurorack case such as this one.
Now the following one appeals, as it features one of the modules that I own, MakeNoise’s brilliant Mimeophon
Mark Booth’s videos have proven to be really good and having subscribed to his channel, his knowledge has proven to be a big help in my modular journey so far and I’ve plenty of mileage to go yet!
Oxi Coral goes brilliantly with this setup, courtesy of Dublin’s Synthdad, another person who knows how to YouTube well.
ModCaf Aldershot
I can recall attending an event in early 2020 at Aldershot’s West end centre, a local arts venue in Hampshire and meeting a couple of people from the ModCaf, a group of modular synth enthusiasts who meet once a month to perform live and educate people in how to build synths etc. They also told me a lot about an event they were setting up, that was like many things postponed by covid for a couple of years. Well it happened last month ad I was kicking myself for not seeing the promotional posts on social media.
I am going to their regular meetup though this week coming. Excited about it and will take something with me to share. I will see if I can capture some video/audio or whatever.
I am looking forward to meeting other creators, seeing what they have to share and I am positive I’ll learn a lot from it. I have to say I am excited.
Last of all, here is something I recorded earlier!
