The Victory's Anchor October 21st 1805
One of many monuments to be found in Portsmouth that commemorates The Battle of Trafalgar and was originally sited close to the point at which Nelson left our shores. It was moved to it’s current spot in 1883.
It was heavily restored in 1973 to the point that it is now more replica than original, much of the old material having perished over time.
In 2005 it was proposed it be removed and returned a position closer to where it used to be located. However this was met with indignation by local people, it was therefore decided to leave it where it is. Later the local council looked at moving it despite opposition but when realising how much it would cost, again decided to leave it be!!
Leave it where it is guys!!
