There are times when I put something together for Modulations and I worry it’s not enough, it has to be more complicated but the old adage is of course - “less is more” and in the case of todays sketch that really is the case. Lo-Fi beats are after all very minimalistic, it’s the vibe that counts, the ear candy.
This one was built out of a single sample, sliced up and some other drum hits added to the project and I created some patterns in Koala. Koala is great for layering ideas and merging patterns is easy. Tidying up notes, either for quantising or manual nudging is easy and with tracks like this I could keep on editing and adding further ideas to them but I chose not to here.
That said; I’m building up some Koala projects that have a bit more complexity and definitely some with really complex drums to boot.
I’ll show you how to work with samples from Tracklib and other places.
Another way of doing this is to embed Koala in an AUM project and generate samples from synths and other sequencers, creating my own sample packs, that I might make available to you if they turn out to be any good.
